What is Hospice?

Hospice is a concept of care derived from medieval times, symbolizing a place where travelers, pilgrims and the sick, wounded and dying could find rest and peace. Today, hospice care offers a program of care for patients facing terminal illness. The focus of care is quality of life and comfort care delivered compassionately by professionals who specialize in end-of-life challenges.

What is the Cost?

Crater Community Hospice accepts most insurance plans including Medicare and Medicaid. The hospice benefit provides all medically necessary equipment and appropriate medications for the patient’s specific disease process and accompanying symptoms to maximize their comfort. And as a non-profit, Crater Community Hospice is able to help cover costs that are not covered by insurance.

When is it Time?

Anyone can refer a patient for hospice care. If the referral is made by a family member or friend, the Crater Community Hospice Admission Team will assist the patient’s physician to ensure that the patient qualifies for hospice care. To qualify, the patient’s physician and the hospice medical director must certify that the patient has a terminal condition with a life expectancy of six-months or less, if the disease runs its normal course.

I have known about Crater Community Hospice for years but it wasn’t until we needed them that I truly understood the support that hospice care could provide.”

Mom was blessed with the gifts of faith, family and friends. Crater Community Hospice was truly a blessing to her and her family during this difficult time.

It is hard to put into words the deep gratitude I feel for the gentle, kind and comforting care you provided our mother.

You are OUR community. We are YOUR hospice.
