This #GivingTuesday, Crater Community Hospice will celebrate giving by participating in Giving Tuesday. 

#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide. Following Thanksgiving and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, this year’s #GivingTuesday will take place on November 27th and will kick off the giving season by inspiring people to collaborate and give back.

This #GivingTuesday, Crater Community Hospice is asking for donations to enable us to purchase a storage building to store supplies for our Memory Garden.  The Memory Garden is a place for our patients, families and the community to reflect and remember the loved ones they have lost.  It is open to our community year-round and tended by volunteers.  “We have quite a collection of shovels, sprays, gloves, and other accessories to help with upkeep that we need to house.  The small closet in our building is running over,” said Cindy Hamlin, Crater Community Hospice’s Development Director.

“The #GivingTuesday donations will allow us to use our normal funds for patient care instead of purchasing a storage building.  The dollars saved we can apply directly to support the programs and services we provide for the well-being of those whom we serve in our community,” said Tracy Taliaferro, Crater Community Hospice’s CEO.

Much has changed during the past year, but one thing has remained constant: our commitment to providing excellent care to our patients and their families. We have built a dynamic and experienced team to include Dr. Sajid Naveed, M.D. as our Medical Director, Karin Blankenship, RN, CHPN, as our Director of Clinical Services, Cindy Hamlin as our Director of Development, Father Thierry Hakpon as our Spiritual Counselor, and a number of both clinical and administrative staff to carry on the mission of Crater Community Hospice. We have also implemented new technology to improve our team’s communicationand ability to share information.

This past year hospice became personal to me as one of my closest friends became a patient with Crater Community Hospice. I am thankful that I was a part of a team of people that made sure my friend and her family felt supported and that we were given the opportunity to spend time together sharing stories, memories, concerns, and ultimately, our grief.
