On December 14th, Crater Community Hospice kicked off the Holidays with a trip to the Illuminate Light Show at Meadow Event Park in Doswell. The deluxe motor coach was reserved through Winn Transportation and allowed us to ride in style through the beautiful show.
Fifty-five people joined us for the trip. Crater Community Hospice used this trip as a fundraiser and “the profits will benefit our respite program,” said Tracy Taliaferro, Crater Community Hospice CEO.
The riders thanked us for the opportunity to see the light show and for arranging the trip. Everyone had a great time and several asked if this would be an annual event!

Crater Community Hospice is currently accepting donations of new unwrapped toys, hat and mitten sets, gift cards and stocking stuffers for children aged to 18 years for the Holiday Helper program at Fort Lee. It ensures that no military child goes without. Donations will be accepted from November 14th through December 4th in collection boxes in our lobby. This year they have a specific need for toys for girls aged 7-12.

Thank you, Bill Humphreys for your wonderful presentation and for leading our October Coffee Chat discussion for Caregivers. We had our largest group ever and Bill provided us with valuable tips and resources to help those who are acting as advocates and caregivers for a loved one and also for those who work as professional caregivers. Bill also reminded us to take care of ourselves if we are in either of these roles and provided valuable self care techniques and coping skills.
