Thank you,  Bill Humphreys for your wonderful presentation and for leading our October Coffee Chat discussion for Caregivers.

Thank you,  Bill Humphreys for your wonderful presentation and for leading our October Coffee Chat discussion for Caregivers. We had our largest group ever and Bill provided us with valuable tips and resources to help those who are acting as advocates and caregivers for a loved one and also for those who work as professional caregivers. Bill also reminded us to take care of ourselves if we are in either of these roles and provided valuable self care techniques and coping skills. Please feel free to contact our office at 526-4300 if you would like to schedule a similar conversation at your church, civic group or place of business.

Special Thanks to Officer Mack with the Petersburg Police Department for his exceptional presentation at our August Coffee Chat.

Special Thanks to Officer Mack with the Petersburg Police Department for his exceptional presentation at our August Coffee Chat and for the valuable information he shared to help keep us safe in the event of an active shooting in our community or workplace.

He explained, that having a plan in place for an active shooting situation could be the key to survival. Develop a plan in your place of business and practice it on a regular basis. He described the three main points this plan should contain:

Run– if you can get out of harm’s way safely, do so immediately and encourage others to leave with you. Call 911 after you are safely away from the situation.

Hide– if you cannot get out, find a place to hide, turn off lights, lock the door and quiet cell phone ringers to make the room look deserted, conceal yourself behind furniture and block the door if possible.

Fight– fight the shooter only as a last resort, work with others and act with aggression using any means available to disarm the shooter and do whatever you can to survive.
