Crater Thrift Shop Hosts Customer Appreciation Day

The Crater Community Hospice Thrift Shop is hosting a customer appreciation day on Friday May 20th in celebration of the store’s third anniversary! There will be a variety of special promotions to thank the community for their loyal supports. First, there will be one day only 20% to 50% off store-wide sales. In addition, those who spend more than $10 will receive two loyalty card punches. Those who spend more than $30 (after all discounts are applied) will receive a $5 voucher to redeem on a future purchase. Everyone will enjoy refreshments and door prizes. To support the greater community as we celebrate, please bring a non-perishable food item which will be donated to local food banks.

It’s hard to believe it has been more than three years since the Crater Community Hospice Thrift Shop officially opened in April 2013. In just the last fiscal year, there were more than 1800 donations – that’s an average of more than 5 every single day the shop is open. Those donations are processed by manager Karen Sadler and her team of dedicated volunteers. An average of more than 200 volunteer hours are contributed every month as they assist with processing donations, pricing and arranging merchandise, and assisting customers.

Donations are accepted during all regular business hours, Monday – Saturday 10am-5pm. We welcome gently used clothing, books, household items, and furniture. We are not able to accept mattresses, computers, or exercise equipment. All items must come from a smoke-free/chemical-free home. Karen and her team maintain strict standards for what will be sold – other items are donated to be recycled or repurposed.

On any given day the store carries a wide range of goods, including jewelry, collectibles, kitchen items, bedding, toys and games, lamps, craft supplies, small appliances, books, home décor including seasonal items, and an extensive collection of clothes and accessories for men, women, and children. Some of these are included in weekly 50% off sales! While subject to change, you will often find kitchenware on sale every Tuesday, women’s clothes on Wednesday, wall décor on Thursday, kid’s items on Friday, and men’s clothing on Saturday. Monday is a mystery sales day – you never know what it will be, but recent sales have included belts and shoes. Items are processed daily, so visit often to see the latest finds!

CCH Thrift Shop Anniversary Celebration

The CCH Thrift Shop opened on April 21, 2013. 37,800 pounds of clothing, 3,000 pounds of metal, 3,200 pounds of books and thousands of dollars of support later, Crater Community Hospice Thrift Shop is celebrating its second anniversary. The celebration will be in full swing on Monday, April 20 with refreshments and a day-long 50% off sale throughout the store.

The CCH Thrift Shop has a three-fold mission: to generate financial support for Crater Community Hospice services, to offer a unique shopping experience with high quality, affordable merchandise to the community, and to provide an accessible place for the community to donate unwanted items.

The Thrift Shop is managed by Karen Sadler and runs with the help of up to 20 volunteers. Every day the shop receives donated items including clothing, books, electronics, household goods, vintage items and gently used toys. Ms. Sadler and her team of volunteers sort through each donation to ensure that only the highest quality items are put in the shop for sale. Unsaleable items are not wasted. The shop donates metal to local churches and cloth materials to recycle businesses which then recycle or repurpose the items. “Our business is one in which virtually nothing goes to waste,” Ms. Sadler explains, “There is a market for almost everything which allows us to provide financial support for hospice services and to help other civic organization.”

The CCH Thrift Shop is open six days a week, Monday – Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Donations are accepted during business hours with donations of clothing (folded in bags, no hangers, please), household goods, linens, books, seasonal décor, furniture, shoes, antiques & collectibles, small appliances, and jewelry encouraged. The only items not accepted are computers and computer equipment, infant cribs and car seats, exercise equipment, TV’s, office desks and entertainment centers, mattresses and stained or ripped furniture.

Crater Thrift Store Open

The Crater Community Hospice Thrift Shop officially opened its doors on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 in the formerly vacant space of our building at 3916 South Crater Road. Since that day we have welcomed hundreds of shoppers looking for great bargains. And they have found them! Thanks to the generosity of our community, CCH has received countless donations of goods to be sold in our shop. From furniture to knick knacks, kitchen goods to jewelry, from baby items to formal wear and wedding gowns plus shoes, books, movies, rugs, lamps, toys, mirrors, wall art, sports equipment —- items too varied and numerous to mention them all — it’s all here in the CCH Thrift Shop.

Come visit, shop at your leisure and get to know our Thrift Shop staff, Karen Sadler, Store Manager, and her assistant, Apryl Cox. We also have several talented and very dedicated volunteers who work our store, accepting and logging in donations of items, cleaning and prepping and merchandising displays. Our shop is open every Tuesday through Saturday from 10AM – 5PM and our stock changes daily. If you don’t see what you want today, come back again — that special something you are looking for might very well be found in our store today. Karen and her staff accept donations of merchandise from noon until 4PM on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
