Crater Community Hospice would like to thank Dr. Phillip Duncan for speaking at our June Coffee Chat. Dr. Duncan spoke with us about “Heart Smart Living” and provided resources to help reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. Maintaining healthy levels of blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar were some of the key factors in his presentation. He explained that reducing our salt intake and the amount of processed foods we consume is also important.

Dr. Duncan also suggested that we add more exercise and activity to our daily lifestyles. Strive to exercise every day and find what works best for us as individuals. Walking is a great source of exercise and can be done anywhere and at varied ability levels, walking indoors or outside, walking on a treadmill and even walking in place, with a goal of 15,000 steps per day.

The CCH July Coffee Chat will be held on Thursday, July 6th from 8:00-9:00 am and will feature Jay White, Gerontologist as our guest speaker. He will speak with us about “Social Connectivity and Aging.” We will discuss the risks of social isolation and loneliness for older adults and how individuals can remain healthy and connected in mind, body and spirit across the lifespan.

We hope you can join us!
