#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide. Following Thanksgiving and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, this year’s #GivingTuesday will take place on November 27th and will kick off the giving season by inspiring people to collaborate and give back.
This #GivingTuesday, Crater Community Hospice is asking for donations to enable us to purchase a storage building to store supplies for our Memory Garden. The Memory Garden is a place for our patients, families and the community to reflect and remember the loved ones they have lost. It is open to our community year-round and tended by volunteers. “We have quite a collection of shovels, sprays, gloves, and other accessories to help with upkeep that we need to house. The small closet in our building is running over,” said Cindy Hamlin, Crater Community Hospice’s Development Director.
“The #GivingTuesday donations will allow us to use our normal funds for patient care instead of purchasing a storage building. The dollars saved we can apply directly to support the programs and services we provide for the well-being of those whom we serve in our community,” said Tracy Taliaferro, Crater Community Hospice’s CEO.
Dedicating a brick in our Crater Community Hospice Memorial Garden is a beautiful way to create lasting memories and honor our loved ones. By purchasing a specially engraved brick and having it placed in our Memorial Garden, your loved one’s memory will be celebrated for generations to come.
Our memorial garden is open to anyone in the community. Enjoy our beautiful garden as a place to share your memories and feel connected with those special people who remain forever in our hearts.
Bricks are ordered and placed in the garden twice per year, in the spring and fall and can be ordered by using the attached form.

Crater Community Hospice is honored to participate in the recently launched 2016 Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign (CVC) “Virginia is for Givers.” If you are not familiar with it, CVC is the annual Commonwealth workplace fundraising drive. State employees can designate their gift for a specific charity, including Crater Community Hospice. Our agency code is 03629.
“State employees have always come through to meet the needs of their communities,” said Governor Terry McAuliffe at the campaign kickoff ceremony. “The annual Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign is an excellent program that provides directly to hundreds of charities in Virginia and across the country. Virginia is fortunate to have employees who respond so generously to the CVC campaign and are willing to support charitable organizations.” Since 1997, state employees have donated a total of $46.8 million to more than 1,000 participating charities selected during a rigorous process for the campaign.
State employees can pledge their gifts through December 21, either directly at their work site or online HERE. CVC does not take an administrative fee from designated gifts, so 100% of your gift goes to the specified charity. Employees may donate online with payroll deductions and/or at larger employers, your CVC Coordinator may have paper pledge cards. For an online payroll deduction, employees choose their donation amount and a calculator determines how much to deduct each pay period. Or if you prefer, the entire contribution can be deducted at once. There are other options, too, including cash, check and even stock gifts.
If you are a state employee, please consider supporting us this year. If you have a family member, neighbor, or friend who employed by the Commonwealth of Virginia, please spread the word that they can support Crater Community Hospice through the CVC.
State employee but prefer to make a direct donation to Crater Community Hospice? If you donate directly to us, your donation can still count towards our CVC total. Just give a copy of your donation or registration receipt to your CVC coordinator. This helps us maintain our eligibility to remain in the program. We can process your online donation securely HERE.
Remember that donations made to Crater Community Hospice help to underwrite hospice care to families in our community. This support allow us to offer hospice service to anyone in need, regardless of their ability to pay. All donations are tax deductible and ensure families of quality hospice care from Crater Community Hospice. Currently, charitable gifts to CCH help cover more than 26% of patient care costs.
